Utah Earthquake

On March 18, 2020 at 7:09 AM, Utah was hit with a 5.7 earthquake. This is very rare as it was the state’s largest since the 1992 earthquake in St. George. The last earthquake to reach a magnitude of 5 in Utah was in 1962. After the 7:09AM earthquake, a strong aftershock of 4.6 was felt at 1:12PM. This earthquake caused power outages, gas leaks, and a chemical spill. Officials say that the spill was not threatening the public therefore it caused no damage. Luckily, there have been no serious injuries. As a result, Salt Lake County declared an emergency which allowed access to federal funds.
