Disney Lays off 28,000 Cast Members at Its 2 US Parks

Disney stated on Tuesday that it would be laying off 28,000 people in the U.S. Most of the layoffs are theme park related, but the Disney Cruise Line and the Disney retail stores will also be affected. They also stated that 67% of the layoffs are part time jobs that pay by the hour. The chairman of the Disney Parks, Josh D’Amaro, stated that the cutting of staff was necessary because of the long impact COVID has had on the parks. He also stated that laying of the Cast Members is an effective step to making a more efficient and operational park when things go back to normal.
