Black History Month was created to honor all black people from all periods of U.S. history, all the way from enslaved people that came from Africa. Its purpose is to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. Some facts about Black History Month is that it was first celebrated during the second week of February in 1926 because it occurred with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Carter G. Woodson was also a scholar whose dedication to celebrating the historic contributions of black people. Then it led to the establishment of black history month.
