Periodical Cicadas to Reemerge After Being Underground for 17 Years

This year, Brood X, a type of periodical cicadas, is reemerging after 17 years of being underground. They are supposed to reemerge around late May and June in 15 states. The 15 states that will be affected are: Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. You will know if Brood X is reemerging if the soil temperatures reach 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, they will burrow their way to the surface and molt and find a mate for one last time. This is a natural wonder that only happens every 17 years, so it is worth watching (if you live in the states mentioned above).
