How Music Affects the Brain

The effect of music has been looked at by scientists for years. They found out that we use all of our brain when we listen to music. Music restricts the amount of stress hormones and helps relieve anxiety. Music also increases the dopamine in the brain which is located in the brain’s “reward” center and also helps mental health in a way that it is called music therapy. Some of the mental health issues you could go to music therapy for are depression and trauma. Music can also help people process trauma and emotion. There is a song that can help you calm down. I listen to it before I go to bed sometimes. It’s called Weightless by Marconi Union who worked with a sound therapist. It reduces the listener’s heart rate, blood pressure, and lowers the stress hormone. It is long but worth it to calm down from a long day.
