On Sunday, December 18th, fire agencies and locals from all over Southern California took the time to honor the fallen Cal Fire engineer, Cory Iverson. Iverson, 32, passed away from burns and smoke inhalation while fighting the fires in Ventura County on Thursday, December 14. Freeway overpasses were filled with fire fighters, police officers, and civilians to honor the hero’s four-hour funeral procession from Ventura County to San Diego. Iverson was a part of the five-engine strike team, and had been with Cal Fire since 2009. A GoFundMe account was created to help Iverson’s pregnant wife and 2-year-old daughter. Many were expected to attend the firefighter’s memorial service at 10 a.m. on December 23 at The Rock Church, 2277 Rosecrans St. in Point Loma.
