On the night of November 7, 2019 a Marine Corps veteran entered the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks and opened fire. He killed 12 people before turning the gun and killing himself. He shot an armed security guard outside the bar then went inside and continued shooting, injuring other security workers, employees, and patrons. Authorities say that the gunman was identified as Ian David Long, 28 years old.

One veteran Sheriff’s deputy was nearby and when he heard over the radio a call for an active shooter he immediately made his way to the bar as the gunshots continued and he was killed. In total there were 6 off duty deputies in the bar that night . A woman whose daughter was at that bar said that one of the deputies stood in front of her daughter protecting her life with his own.

Active shooters continue happening and it’s time that we make a change to save lives of others and prevent this from happening again.
