Anime Shrine in Chile

Anime+Shrine+in+Chile

This past month, a billboard was put up in one of Chile’s subway stations promoting the newest season of a anime titled “Jujutsu Kaisen” written by manga creator Gege Akutami. The billboard starred two of the show’s main protagonists, one of which includes a fan favorite named Gojo Satoru, who recently died in the manga’s latest chapter. But in an unexpected turn of events, many residents of Chile started placing notes, lipstick stains, and other symbols of admiration like gifts to commemorate the fictional character. This phenomenon is actually quite common within certain fandoms when character deaths are involved. But none have ever gotten to such a tremendous size before. There have been numerous videos on TikTok of a security guard removing the notes and gifts, but to no avail with the people only putting up more stuff the next day. Now what used to be considered an advertisement has been turned into a shrine by the people, all out of good fun and benevolence of course. We’re not exactly sure how long the billboard will stay up for considering that it has been almost a month since it was last placed. But there’s no doubt that the hundreds of messages and letters will stay up till the very last minute.
