“Femicide”-The Killings of Women in Mexico

“Femicide” is the killing of a woman or girl, in particular by a man and on account of her gender. This month the gruesome murder of a woman and girl were the topic of discussion in Mexico. It started an outrage within the women of Mexico because because this isn’t the first time this has happened. In Mexico, this type of behavior happens all the time. The unlawful killings of women just for being a woman is reaching a breaking point for the victims’ families and other women. Over 1,000 deaths due to femicide have been recorded. Since there has been an outcry from the people, the government promised to take action to fight against it. But their efforts fall short, since the president said that femicide has been manipulated into seeming worse than it is. Since an average of ten women a day are killed, it surely is that bad of a problem as it seems. The government of Mexico has failed their women, as they started to take matters in their own hands. They have started protests, organizations, and places where women who are seeking safety can stay. But this doesn’t mean it’s all peace: to be heard they have vandalize, tear down and cause a scene in their towns. This rage from mothers, daughters and friends of victims whose loved ones received no justice by the government for their deaths, has built up because they have been actively shown that their problem isn’t important. Until justice is served for these women and these families, none of them will stop fighting the gruesomeness that is femicide.
