Recently Bad Bunny was starring on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and he said he had a surprise for everyone. He later took off his sweater to reveal a shirt saying “Mataron a Alexa. No a un hombre con falda” translating to “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt.” Alexa Negrón Luciano was a homeless transgender woman who was brutally murdered in the city of Tao Baja on Monday February 17th, 2020. She was killed because a woman filed a complaint on her for entering the woman’s restroom and accused her of spying on her. The news about this matter quickly grew and many people began to harass her and she was later shot to death many times and the men that shot her filmed a video of them shooting and laughing at her and later posted it on Facebook. Later when police found her body they described her as “a man in a skirt.” This broke out quickly and attracted the attention of many celebrities like Bad Bunny and it also attracted the attention of Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.

This situation just shows that transphobia is a thing and can kill. Transgender women are more scared than ever now that this horrific event has happened. This has also awakened the LGBTQ+ community in a way that helps us realize even more that we have rights as well. I want people to realize that she was just going to the restroom like many of us need to do and she was using the right bathroom not the wrong one so may she rest in peace and may she live on in the hearts of other trans women and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community as a reason to continue fighting for trans and gay rights. People discriminating and harassing trans people and gays for wanting to be themselves is wrong, and I do wish that this horrid thing will pass and we will no longer have to have transgender women and gays scared to death because the world is unaccepting and instead of supporting the LGBTQ+ community they choose to harass and brutally murder them. May Alexa Rest In Peace and live on in heaven and may she be a light of hope to other trans women out in the world.
