As we grow as human beings, we must be more inclusive. Two years ago, Elsinore High School had an ASL club but it ended when the club teacher left.
I think it’s about time we ask for a language class for ASL. We’re losing time to be taught properly in the ways of ASL, and this should be brought up to the LEUSD Board to add ASL as a foreign language for A-G requirements. ASL is as much needed as Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese, as ASL is more commonly used for the faint of hearing and mute. ASL is not the only of its kind, as different places of the world use their variations of ASL, like French Sign Language (FSL), or Mexican Sign Language (MSL). While there may be ‘easier’ ways to communicate without using your voice, you need to account for the other person’s comfort. Learning ASL could be free if our school provides it, so I think it’s time for us to speak to our LEUSD Board, don’t you think?
Chrys out, and I’ll see you next week on Tiger Times! /\__/\
