The landing of the Mayflower on what would be Plymouth, Massachusetts is an important day in American history and part of the reason why we have Thanksgiving. Now, the history of pilgrims landing in the new world is something most don’t know anymore so I want to explain. The pilgrims of the Mayflower were seeking the new world to have religious freedom from England, and they came to land on what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts, after many died on the journey. They didn’t fare so well when they landed, struggling through winter, until a local Native American tribe named the Wampanoag came to help the Pilgrims, and became new found neighbors, where they lived in peace. This time in American history is renowned for its themes of freedom and humanity like the friendship between the native Americans and pilgrims and the freedom of being in new found territory for religion and governing themselves.
