Your best friend isn’t making things weird, he’s trying to help you out!
Studies show that holding hands truly does reduce activity in the hypothalamus which is responsible for regulating our stress response. Holding hands dwindles that stress, but replaces it with a ‘cuddling hormone.’ Basically your need to do more than hold hands, like hug or snuggle.
Even back into the 13th century, holding hands has been a passed on aspect of love. Fede-rings are rings with large gems and cut to look like a couple holding hands, derived from the Italian phrase, “mani in fede” meaning “hands clasped together in faith.”
Hundreds of years ago we found strength and love in the smallest of actions, even today it means the same thing. It’s not sure why we hold hands, but that we’ve learnt to do it, and it benefits those involved. We know it’s safe to do, even as babies we clasp at the first thing we can, most often the finger of our parents.
To feel the warmth or cold of someone’s hand, their soft or rough skin, feeling the space between their fingers fit perfectly withing your own, or the gentle reminder of, “I’m here.” When they gently squeeze your hand is one in its own league.
I am your doctor’s note, HOLD HANDS MORE OFTEN OR YOU’LL DIE. ‘If you don’t want me to do die do it.’
