In the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, all new school years usually start mid August. Some students and parents say that they should start later in the year because it’s too hot. The reason why they start earlier than most schools in California is because they get longer spring breaks, Christmas breaks, and Thanksgiving breaks. They give students two months off for summer break.
The school allows the gym to be open at lunch and some people sit in classrooms to avoid the heat. However, some classroom’s AC units break and the classes have to move to other rooms. This wouldn’t be an issue if they started later in the year because of cooler weather.
