“Angelic Hoodrat: Supercut” is an album by Kenny Mason which is a sequel to “Angelic Hoodrat,” yet the two albums don’t share any songs. AHS (Angelic Hoodrat: Supercut) to me, holds some of Kenny Mason’s best, most beautiful songs and that is why I am writing, to share its beauty. My personal favorite moment on the album is “Titan,” a song where Kenny features a guitarist. The song is a rock song and yet it has one of Kenny’s greatest rap verses. The song starts with a quiet guitar and Kenny singing in his most beautiful voice possible, This is the chorus to the song. Kenny’s singing slowly starts to build depth and right as he stops, the feature on the song, Angel White, has a guitar solo. The song’s chorus then repeats, but this time when the vocal layering gets added into Kenny’s singing, the guitar in the background becomes very aggressive, giving a very energetic feeling. Nearing the end of this energetic, emotional moment, Kenny repeats the line “Ain’t nobody as up as me.” He repeats this line 8 times, building suspense and right after the 8th time the guitar instantly mellows out, and Kenny begins his rap verse in this song. The rap verse stretches from 2:32-3:29, being nearly an entire minute long. Here is Kenny’s entire rap verse if you’d like to read it
“Clip on my waist
Eliminate paranoia in minimal wage
Triggers and safeties giving a false feeling of safety
You see the traces of horror, way they sit on my face
Sit on my skin, under my shoulders, inches away
Thinking of ways to be remembered when I’m erased
I scribble a riddle and then I erase it
If it ain’t sent from a place of it ending the day
I ain’t giving my all, then this [thing] is a waste
I ain’t living at all, I ain’t mention with greats
When paying homage, I wonder how it feel to be paid
My [brother] ridin’ with skinny choppas, they could fit in a locker
I declined so many offers, I knew they was gon’ off ’em
I was lightning in a bottle, fiddling with a bottle
I didn’t fill in the bubbles, or fit in bubbles, I popped ’em
No, don’t matter how pop they go, bullets gon’ pop ’em
Cook ’em and crop ’em, drop ’em
Bullies in office profit off how crooked the cops get
Look at the caucus, lookin’ with caution
Nauseous, lookin’ as I did
Seen the sun, let it sit on my face
I swore I’d see the sun, let it sit on my face
I swore I’d see the sun, let it burn in my face
I swore I’d see the sun, let it burn in my face
I swore I’d see the sun – it’s burnin’ in my face [it is]
Burnin’ in my face, it’s burnin’ my face [it is]”
The lyricism shown in this rap verse, despite being a rock song, is incredible. Kenny starts the intro to the chorus after that incredible verse, but he only says the first line of the chorus before another guitar solo. After this the song slowly dies down.
Another one of the most beautiful moments in this album is in the song “Breathe Again.” This song also starts with a very mellow guitar. Kenny sings a solo verse in the beginning of this song with the most beautiful voice you’ll hear out of him. Kenny then sings the chorus of the song together with the feature, Ambar Lucid. Kenny and Ambar together make this chorus so beautiful and emotion, I highly recommend you listen. Kenny then again, after the chorus, repeats the line ” I won’t escape, I know” 8 times, building suspense. After the 8th time, Kenny has a very unique rap verse. This rap verse uses autotune to create an underwater sound. This verse goes from 1:16-2:02, being almost a minute long again. After the rap verse, the chorus is repeated, and the song ends.
