This past week, a wildfire in Southern California swept through nearby regions, affecting thousands of acres. While Lake Elsinore wasn’t directly hit by the flames, the smoke and poor air quality brought major disruptions to daily life. Since Elsinore experienced poor air quality and smoky skies, schools in the district were closed for most of the week and any events that took place that week were cancelled or postponed as a precaution, keeping students indoors and safe from the harmful air. The community also saw reduced visibility, making it hard for some residents to carry out their daily routines. Southern California saw severe impacts, with homes being evacuated and firefighters working around the clock to contain the blaze. Air quality across the state reached dangerous levels, prompting warnings and health alerts.
