Sports are a physical activity that most people enjoy playing. Some benefits are that sports can help you reach your fitness goals and maintain a healthy weight. It also helps improve your mental health by reducing stress or anxiety because it also helps people feel happier and more relaxed. It can also boost your self-esteem because watching your hard work pay off and achieving your goals develops self-confidence, which encourages you to achieve other goals you set to then see the progress. When playing sports teamwork is important because you learn how to work with the weaknesses and strengths of others.
Being mentally healthy has a great impact on athletes and it can be both positive or negative. For example, pressure comes from coaches, teammates, or themselves which then can lead to stress and mental health issues. Multiple responsibilities at once can cause not having your full attention in the game which causes you to not play well. Also, a lack of support for mental health can be caused by a lack of support from teammates, coaches, and family. When a player experiences injuries it is mostly likely for anxiety or depression to happen. When athletes have personal or family history of mental illness, social isolation or significant life stressors may be a higher rick for mental health issues. Most people have panic attacks, feeling overwhelmed, agitation avoidance, difficulty sleeping, stomach problems, headache, and behaviors which players suffer with. It is important for them to see a therapist or have someone to talk to, which also creates a time for themselves each day.
