I love to watch anime and explore new types of anime and this week I decided to watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It’s on Netflix, only 1o episodes, and looked cool so easy watch right? Wrong.
The world and society in Cyberpunk are mechanical. The characters bodies are half electronic and lets them put chips in their body. Many characters go under surgery and get their limbs and bones changed to mechanical metal so that they can be an Edgerunner or Cyberpunk. An Edgerunner is like one of those henchmen who get paid by people at the top to do odd jobs like stealing and murder. Cyberpunk is like a style/aesthetic people of that world try to be to seem cool, like the emo or y2k styles of our world. The anime is about this poor 17 year old boy that goes to a rich school. He’s constantly bullied at school but gets straight A’s despite that. However it costs too much money and his single mom has to work her butt off just to pay her son’s tuition. In the first episode he hits rock bottom and then does something stupid and then meets a bunch of Edgerunners. I’m not going to spoil it if you’re going to watch it but just be prepared to turn into a crybaby at the end of it (no joke I cried for 20 minutes). Overall this anime’s plot, animation, and characters were all 10/10 but the ending is unfortunately Banana Fish tier so no, I don’t recommend you watch this.
