Hanako San is a vengeful spirit who haunts the 3rd floor restrooms in schools. Hanako San is said to have died during a bombing raid in World War II, but other versions claim that she was killed by a pervert. The most known origin says that she was bullied by girls in her grade, who took things too far and drowned her inside a bathroom stall.

To summon Hanako-San, the person summoning her must walk into a girl’s bathroom, knock on the last stall three times, and ask if she is there. The summoner might find themselves being dragged into the stall by Hanako without any chance of escape. Their body will be found and their death will be pronounced as drowning.

There are many versions of Hanako-san, and one of them is combined with the evil spirit Kashima Reiko. She’s a girl who has only her upper body intact and will ask a person from above their stalls, “where are my legs?” If you are asked this, say “On the Meishin Expressway.” If she asks if you’re using your legs, you’re supposed to say “I need to use them.”​ Any other answer will result in her ripping your legs off.
