Halloween is a very popular event all around the world. Most people do dress up and have many ways to celebrate it, although we think of Halloween in a childish way. We do not have a clear understanding of why we celebrate Halloween or what is Halloween. The history of Halloween is a blend of honoring the dead, seasonal change, and warding off dark spirts. It’s also a blend of ritual European religious and Spanish culture. The holiday is celebrated each year from October 31- November 2. According to tradition the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on Halloween night and the spirits of children are rejoined with their families for twenty-four hours. Also on November 2nd, that’s when the adult spirts can do the same.
The tradition started originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Over time, Halloween turned in parties, costumes, jack-o- lanterns and going trick or treating around your neighborhood for kids and adults. On the other hand most people do not celebrate Halloween because they see it has a bad holiday which in history it is. It shows in history that you’re praying to the devil and that we are celebrating his day. Now people have developed it into a fun day instead of a bad thing. The Day of the Dead is also the next day, which is November 1-2, a Mexican tradition that we celebrate.
We all have a different point of view on Halloween which we all respect, but Halloween is supposed to be fun and interesting, for example dressing up and having fun with friends and family and going around to ask for candy, or watching movies or having a party to celebrate with family you love.
