The New York Yankees superstar, Aaron Judge, had the best season in the league without a doubt had he not lived in the same era as Shohei Ohtani who is a Jack of All Trades, who hit over 40 HRs a year in the past two seasons and throws fastballs over 99 MPH over a year ago before his Tommy John Surgery and over 50 stolen bases. But that’s no downplay to that of Aaron Judge’s season who held a league high 58 HRs and an astonishing .322 average as a 6’7 power hitter which is not at all common. To say the Yankees would have made the postseason without him would be a misunderstanding as he is the clear favorite for AL MVP. But to say the Yankees wouldn’t have survived the postseason and made the World Series without his bat would be another thing. Aaron Judge’s postseason stats display a completely different player; he boasts 6 hits in 12 games in 43 at bats. Throughout his 2024 postseason campaign he has 20 strikeouts in 43 at bats with a close to 50% strikeout rate with a below league batting average that is .196 compared to league average .246. But these stats don’t explain the gap that the Bronx Bombers have been missing in this postseason push. Combined with a lackluster Aaron Judge and poor pitching leading to a choked 10th inning grand slam to Freddie Freeman given up by an inactive Nestor Cortez Jr. who hadn’t pitched an inning since last month on Sept. 18th. Then last night with Clarke Schmidt who gave up 2 hits and 4 base on balls and 3 earned runs to solidify the Dodgers’ lead through out the remainder of the game. The Yankees face a potential sweep and no help from Aaron Judge will give Yankees fans a bittersweet 2024 season and hope that Aaron Judge’s postseason troubles will end and give them the glory of a 28th World Series Pennant. But all in all the Yankees can’t hope to win without his help and leadership on the diamond as he is the soon to be MVP but playing as a below average MLB player when it matter the most.
