Patrick Ta released a new product, of two hyper-glittery and sparkly eyeshadows in a compact palette aptly named the new major dimension illusion eye shadow duos. The promotion of the products’ pre-launch showed extremely pigmented and glittery eyeshadow, being marketed as luxurious and one-of-a-kind. Along with having extreme quality, the eyeshadows were also marketed as being portable and ideal for travel.
Fans and consumers alike were very excited for the launch of this product, but reactions quickly switched when it was revealed that the duos would cost $42. Many people compared the price to those of high-end designer brands, like Chanel and Dior, which price their products similarly.
Along with the outrageous price for this product, many people who had bought the product revealed that the quality of the eyeshadows were not as marketed. The shadows were not pigmented or glittery, and were hard to see unless under professional lighting. The packaging for the product was also low quality and broke upon opening for many.
A lot of people agree that this product is overpriced, and many agree with the sentiment that beauty and cosmetic brands have become detached from reality and price their products as unattainable for working-class people. With the price of new makeup products rising, there will be an influx in consumers buying more drug-store products or dupes.
