My cousin is lucky to be alive. When she was 5, she was left unattended and thought it was hilarious to jump out the window, trying to hang onto a clothesline that couldn’t support her weight. In doing so, she fell down 3 stories onto concrete, and her little cousin went running inside yelling that she had fallen.
Everyone assumed she fell off the bed, brushing it off and continuing on. But the apartment neighbors had seen her. My cousin’s grandma goes upstairs to check the bedroom, and confused, asks, “Where’s Linda?”
“She’s down there!” And he points out the window to my cousin lying 3 stories down.
She screams and yells at everyone about what happened, but my cousin is unconscious on the floor. My uncle slaps my cousin awake and the ambulance arrives, all she had was a couple of scrapes and bruises, and a plain Elsa shirt. By her words, “When the firefighters were putting the neck brace on, that hurt more than falling out the window.”
Another incident she had was fairly recent. My cousin Linda is a cheerleader at CLMS and is a tumbler. During their Disney Assembly, my cousin was tumbling, but the girl in front her was doing backhand springs, but while my cousin was getting back up from her tumble, the girl slammed her feet down onto the back of my cousin’s head. Linda fell limp, passing out for a mere second before getting up with her peers yelling at her to move.
She crawls aside, getting back up to continue the routine and when it’s her turn to move to the front, dead center, she passes out and is dragged away. “They said I felt like a ragdoll.” She says.
The assembly was still going while they woke her, and asked her questions. Most of which she got wrong.
“What’s today’s date?”
“August 17th 2017.”
“You’re a little off.”
“Huh?”
They brought a wheelchair and she banged her head on the seat when they forced her to stand and get into the chair. They asked for her mom’s phone number, which she only knew half of, so they couldn’t do much, and called a random number. So she tried again and my aunt answered.
They explained what happened, and my cousin told her mom she wasn’t okay, that she hit her head. My aunt would be there soon. Linda was taken to the nurse, and people were yelling that they didn’t want the blame pushed onto them, and my cousin’s headache grew worse with the shouting, and she began to cry.
When my aunt arrived, she was mad at the teachers and nurse, and then Linda threw up and she went blind.
“How many fingers am I holding up?”
“I dunno, I can’t even see.”
The ambulance arrived, and took my cousin to the hospital. She was put in ICU, checked quickly by several doctors, and took CT Scans, and was drugged. She went to sleep, and awoke to more tests where doctors were worried cause she couldn’t feel much. She confessed to everyone that she was starving, and cried for food for hours.
“Karma hit me when I laughed at Ms. Aguirre. News flash, don’t laugh at people who fall.” –Linda
