I’ve talked about Godzilla before, the first era, but now I want to tell you a little bit about the new era of Godzilla. So it starts all the way back in 2010, 14 whole years ago. A mass media company called “Legendary” decided that they need to make a new type of Godzilla, so they did. The producer for the movie, Thomas Tull, wasn’t announced until 2011. The director was Gareth Edwards. They don’t really matter in the long run though, since each movie had a different director. They didn’t want to make Godzilla a full bad guy, like how he was shown in the old movies. He was going to be an anti-hero, good and bad, so that’s what they did.
Godzilla in the first movie is a bit different than what other people has seem him as. Like he is full CGI, no longer a costume. In this movie the fights take place in different states of the US. We go to Hawaii, San Francisco, and a place in Japan with a nuclear powerplant. Godzilla fights a kaiju called “Muto’s” a male and female Muto. Males are small and can fly. Females are huge and could cause big amounts of damage in just a short time. They also have an EMP which could take down electrical stations. The movie ends with Godzilla heading back into the ocean.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters came out in 2019. It is the sequel to Godzilla (2014). The producer is the same but the new director is Michael Dougherty. In this movie Godzilla goes against King Ghidorah and Rodan, though he teams up with his queen Mothra. If you don’t already know, King Ghidorah is Godzilla’s nemesis. They always fight, and never once have we seen them team up. So we know how much their beef goes on for. In lore, they have fought for millions of years. In this movie Godzilla fights Rodan and Ghidorah in Boston. I don’t want to spoil the movie but let’s say its a little of a junky plot, but it is still really good.
Now we get to two more movies, and this is just kind of where they are leaving us at for a while: Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong The New Empire. So in Godzilla vs. Kong, it shows that Kong, which was small in his own solo movie, Kong: Skull Island, is now big, this Kong in 2021, is massive. He grew a lot due to Hollow Earth radiation. Godzilla is now also bigger, and faster. He and Kong fight in 2 places, the ocean and Hong Kong. Godzilla fights 2 kaiju’s, though, and Kong helps him fight the other guy in the end. Which is a mystery for you!
Then we got the recent movie this year in 2024, “Godzilla x Kong: The new Empire.” Kong is now in the Hollow Earth, it’s his new home due to the surface being Godzilla’s territory, so Kong needs to stay out if he doesn’t want to be killed. So yeah, Kong being in the Hollow Earth senses something weird, and sees something odd, which was in his hunting grounds. He goes deeper into the Hollow Earth and ends up finding more of his kind. Well, kind of. Godzilla is up on the surface getting stronger since he feels this weird thing too. So Kong goes to this weird lair, which he finds the main antagonist of the movie, Skar King. So then he and the Skar King duel, and Kong loses. There was another kaiju in there which damaged Kong really bad, Shimo, an ice kaiju. She is huge, like she is the biggest kaiju ever. Kong then gets a beast glove, and goes back to the surface and finds Godzilla. Then they brawl, and from there they team up after Kong nearly dies again to Godzilla. Also Mothra is there. They go into the Hollow Earth, and the big fight starts from there all the way up to Rio de Janeiro. That is where the fight ends, with it being the end of Skar King.
That is the end of the Legendary Godzilla…for now.
