The women’s triple jump world record holder is Yulimar Rojas with her jump of 15.74 meters at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia in 2022. First, she broke the world record at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 with 15.67 meters but jumped farther two years later which still makes her the current holder. According to Olympics.com, with her being a four-time outdoor world champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and three-time indoor world champion she is known as “La Reina Del Triple Salto” which means “the queen of triple jump” in Spanish. Rojas was born into a family of six siblings in Caracas, Venezuela and had an interest in volleyball at first but chose track and field. She won gold for high jump at the South American Junior Championships in 2011 and silver at the Pan American Youth Athletics Championships and the Bolivarian Games at the age of fifteen. She had won high jump at the 2014 South American Games and triple jump and long jump at South American Athletics Championships in 2015 by the age of 19. From there, she went on in her continuous journey of reaching her full potential in triple jump with the help of her coach, Ivan Pedroso. She won gold at the 2016 Indoor World Championships and silver at Rio 2016 Olympics. Rojas became the first Venezuelan woman to win an Olympic gold medal which she secured at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021. Unfortunately, she did not compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to an Achilles injury that occurred in April of 2024 while training in Spain. She was expected to be out for five months so we hope to see her in Los Angeles for the next Olympics in 2028 or any competitions prior. Her ultimate goal is to jump more than 16 meters. Yulimar Rojas is a dedicated and driven athlete who inspires triple jumpers and athletes in general to strive for improvement.
