Valentine’s Day is a very special day for love birds, but not many know the backstory about Valentine’s Day, or why we celebrate it on February 14th.
Valentine’s Day began as a Christian feast day to honor a Christian priest named Valentine. It was said a Roman Emperor named Claudius imprisoned and killed Valentine for preforming weddings, but many chose to be on Valentine’s side after hearing what had happened. There are also rumors Valentine was able to restore Claudius’s blind daughter’s eye sight.
In the late 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as a day of remembrance for Saint Valentine. Today we remember Valentine’s Day as a cultural and religious celebration of romance and love.
