Winter formal is coming up this weekend on Saturday, but a majority of students have their reasons for why they aren’t going. I bought my ticket thinking a lot of my friends were going but found out that they aren’t attending so I am looking into getting a refund. The venue was originally supposed to be in the parking lot and I asked my friend what they thought of the venue and they thought it would be “too cold and long dresses on asphalt would make the dresses dirty.” Then, the venue got changed to the gym. I asked my friend, Lilie Bowen, why she’s not going and she explained that she’s “not paying forty-five dollars to come to our school and have a little dance in the gym . . . if it was twenty to thirty dollars, it would be a more reasonable price.” For a different perspective, I asked my friend, Tiarra Boggs, why she’s going to winter formal and she said “I’m going to have a fun night with my friends and dress up.” Then I asked why she thinks others aren’t going and she explained that they “aren’t going because it is expensive for it being at the school.” Ultimately, I think the reason for the low attendance rate is because the venue used to be at a country club and now that it’s changed, people don’t want to go.
