Superstar Luka Dončić has been traded to the Lakers via a three way trade involving the Mavericks, Lakers, and Jazz. The Lakers receive Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris. Dallas receives Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a Lakers 2029 1st round pick. The Jazz receive Jalen Hood-Schifino and a Mavericks’ 2nd round 2025 pick as well as a La Clippers’ 2025 pick.
The trade has made waves in the NBA as it is one of the biggest trades in the history of the league. Mavericks GM Nico Harrison said that he wants a more defensive team and that defense wins championships, a slap in the face to Dončić who was the best player in a lackluster finals squad, averaging 29 points per game in the Finals. Many say the Lakers won the trade by a mile with them receiving a younger Luka Dončić for an aging Anthony Davis who is very injury prone (has been injured to the moment of the trade), also pointing out the fact Luka took the Mavs to an NBA Finals. To me personally, it seems as Dallas made a trade that they will regret as Anthony Davis isn’t getting younger, and they made the trade out of necessity to make the playoffs. Luka Dončić is the future of the NBA and was the key to Dallas dominance and now he has the chance to play with Lebron James and win the finals with LA’s chances to win the NBA skyrocketing to 5th on the odds.
