My Scene were a fashion doll line produced by Mattel in 2002. They were created to be a spin-off series of Barbie but only lasted 6 years, as they were discontinued in 2008 and 2011 worldwide. Because of their closeness to Barbie, My Scene can be considered the tween version of the doll line. The dolls’ characters were named after cities in New York.
The controversy that began the decline of My Scene doll production was in 2007, when Mattel released a collection of “Growing Up Glam” dolls. Similar to “Growing Up Skipper,” this collection featured a key-spin mechanism on the dolls’ backs, which allowed them to grow in height as well as grow their chests. However, the downfall truly began once Mattel was sued by MGA Toys for the lines’ similarity to the Bratz dolls.
The doll line had various movies and webisodes but ultimately they stopped being produced after the lawsuit in 2008 in America, and internationally in 2011.
