This week on February 2, 2025, former player on the Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angels Lakers. For many people this trade was out of nowhere, untold to the public and on each team fanbases had mixed opinions. Mavericks fans are livid with this choice to trade Luka for what seems to be a old injury prone Anthony Davis. The Mavericks had also acquired two younger players and a 2027 first round draft pick. To the fan base that does not seem worth it for their young superstar that had brought them to the NBA Finals. On the other hand, as you could imagine, the Lakers are very pleased with this trade for many reasons. One, the Lakers are prepared for LeBron James’s retirement and are building a young talented team for his leave. Second, this young star Luka has a lot to promise with the rest of his career as he is young and many would say in his prime. In the end the Mavs are also building for the future to acquire a first round pick and younger players but I do not think trading their franchise player was the smartest move.
