The People’s Union USA, specifically John Schwarz (Instagram user: theonecalledjai), initiated the boycott on February 28th of 2025 that encourages people to not buy products from corporations that lowered their efforts for DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). One contribution is because President Donald Trump eliminated federal DEI programs and many companies followed his action. Companies that got rid of their DEI programs include Ford, McDonald’s, Target, Meta, Walmart, Pepsi, Disney, Google, Pepsi, Amazon, etc. (more information). The ultimate goal of the organization is to confront corporate greed and the increasing prices in America. The 24-hour economic blackout emphasizes to only spend your money at local businesses rather than companies that have a disgustingly large amount of money. The boycott will start from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on Friday, February 28th.
