In the match against Barcelona and Benfica, the Catalan club suffered a quick red card in the first 22 minutes by a risky challenge by La Masía graduate Pau Cubarsi and he was sent off. Dani Olmo came off the field for centre back Ronald Aruajo to come on. Barcelona was faced with a lot of adversity almost conceding a goal in but Wojciech Szczęny saved it with his left. Ever since the red, Barça were on the backfoot, being able to go forward with precision but not being able to keep much possession. Iñigo Martinez gets a yellow after a bad tackle is taken on him where he thinks the challenger should’ve been booked for more than just a yellow, he takes his shin guards off and then proceeds to throw it on the ground where he then is booked. In minute 45+4′ Raphinha gets a clear lob to goal but it was not controlled right and led to a excellent chance for Benfica but good defense saves Barça. Raphinha had a clear shot in minute 45+6′ and has decision to shoot or pass and makes a pass. I thought he had a clear shot on goal.
In the second half, it was all Benfica. Benfica had 26 shots and 8 on target, Barça had the advantage of having one of the best keepers in the world right now with Wojciech Szczęsny in goal. He made critical saves and made saves that just weren’t supposed to happen. In the 50th minute a key play made by Benfica where an inside the box shot is stopped by Wojciech and it bounces off of him and he kicks it out too. Another key player was Raphinha with his work rate leading to a critical steal and scoring off that in the 60th minute with a beautiful shot that seemed to just blaze and then roll into the corner of the goal. In the last 10 minutes of the games life it was all Benfica and it was all Benfica but it was all for nothing the game ends 1-0 in favor of FC Barcelona.
