The fate of the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant has been a concern since Moscow’s forces stormed the facility in March 2022. The UN’s nuclear watchdogs have repeatedly been warning of the security dangers facing the plant. Now the plant is expected to be part of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. President Trump administration officials are saying that “The White House press secretary on Monday falsely asserted that the occupied nuclear power plant is ‘on the border’.” Before Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the nuclear power plant supplied roughly 20% of Ukraine’s energy, with six reactors.
