Tiger sharks get their name from the gray vertical stripes or spots on their sides, which are noticeable in juveniles but fade with age. Tiger sharks can grow up to 18 feet long and weigh over 2,000 pounds. They have a diverse diet, consuming everything from fish, seabirds, dolphins, sea turtles, and even other sharks, and are known to ingest non-food items like metal and plastic. Because of this they are known as the trash can of the sea. Tiger sharks are solitary hunters and nomads. Tiger sharks inhabit both shallow, coastal waters and deeper ocean waters, sometimes venturing up to 1,150 feet deep!
