There are many benefits to having a dog. Dogs can decrease stress, anxiety, and depression by eliminating the feeling of being lonely and reducing cortisol levels. They also improve health by increasing physical activity, such as going for walks or runs, taking a trip to the dog park, or playing games with a tennis ball or a frisbee. Dogs can contribute to a faster recovery from illness by providing mental support which then leads to physical support. For example, if the owner is happy and destressed due to their dog, then it can lead to a fast recovery through the improved mindset that the owner has. Having a dog gives you a sense of purpose due to the fact that you have to take care of something other than yourself. I highly recommend adopting a dog for general health and overall happiness.
