Olivia Rodrigo “SOUR” Era

Olivia Rodrigo SOUR Era

Going back to 2021, Olivia shared her most vulnerable, emotional, pop rock, and number 1 favorite album to the world. She hit charts that suppressed the biggest popstars like Taylor Swift. Her SOUR era was very nostalgic, young & youthful, 2000s core and teenage aesthetic with grunge outfits and a pair of boots. The colors are very bright with pastel purples and other pastel colors. SOUR became a hit album all around the world with billions of streams on Spotify, making all her 11 songs on the Billboard 100. The album has in total 11 billion streams with only 11 tracks, beating Taylor Swift with only 9 billion on Midnights. I adored SOUR and the era it brought to young viewers more than just knowing her from the Disney Channel “Bizaardvark.” I grew up watching her but not knowing anything about her. Her singles from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series “All I Want” and “Driver’s License” (which was also on her album) were the way I knew that she was going to be a BIG superstar in the future. Driver’s License was the one that caught my eye the most because it was a raw emotional song that deep down felt like how she felt when she was writing that song. Her album as well has moods, feelings, and insecurities a teenager goes through in a breakup. There’s anger, depression, replacement, worthless, powerless, angsty, not wanting to see anyone with them, needing to find yourself, generous, but not too generous, jealousy, infatuated, and empathetic.

SOUR brought a lot of nostalgic moments like digital cameras, grunge boots and fashion glasses, summer vibes, jeans with a crop top, tennis skirts, light makeup, and big jewelry. It is very much like the early 2000s and punk rock aesthetic. Butterflies were a huge symbol in this album meaning the young girl Olivia was in her teenage years. A butterfly can also resemble innocence and purity. Olivia wanted to bring this nostalgic era back to life and she did. With the outfits she wore, the punk rock and guitar playing in her songs, the drums, and the behind-the-scenes in her music videos, SOUR has been my favorite album since it’s been out in May 2021. I’d do anything to go back to the date it was released and listen to it again. This is Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR era.
