Satanists Don’t Worship Satan

Debunking Satanist (Satanic Temple) Myths Part 1
Satanists Dont Worship Satan

I wanted to start a series starring something I know a lot about, so I chose the Satanic Temple. This will be because I’ve been studying it for a while and I’m currently reading a book on it. I wanted to represent a not talked about religion because I thought it would be a good challenge. I also love debunking bad arguments so this is my best bet for now.

I’d like to differentiate the Satanic Temple from the Church of Satan. I know little to nothing about the Church of Satan, I specifically study the Satanic Temple. The Satanic Temple does NOT worship Satan. At first I thought the Church of Satan did, but after further research they even claim that they don’t, saying, “We Satanists are thus our own “Gods,” and as beneficent “deities” we can offer love to those who deserve it and deliver our wrath (within reasonable limits) upon those who seek to cause us—or that which we cherish—harm”. “If it doesn’t worship Satan, why is it called Satanism?” When asked if they worship Satan, their answer on the official website is, “No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural… To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions”. Another reason I’ve seen is that the name Satanism itself scares off some Christians (because not all do) because they think they are interested in swaying, or indoctrinating them. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any sources able to back that up, so I’m addressing that as experience and not as fact.

This is purely for education purposes, which is why I source my claims properly. I understand these kind of posts could make people uncomfortable, but no one is obligated to read it. I’m looking forward to sharing more of the cultures I’m a part of with people, and hopefully we could find some middle ground. If you’re interested, I plan on sharing the Tenets of the Satanic Temple, as well as more of its history.

Constructive criticism is always appreciated, hate is never tolerated, strive to learn even at the expense of pride.
