Seriously, every time I sit down and write, it is like a switch flips. I calm down, relax, and just dump all my thoughts all onto a page.
But, why? Why do our brains shut off when writing to relax?
When you write, it feels like you can express anything you want. It allows you to feel like you are getting thoughts off your chest. It allows you to get feelings out that may be harmful to your mental health.
It also allows you to find meaning, while promoting self awareness! It creates a narrative which can turn a traumatic memory into an understandable moment in ones life. This also adds to self awareness, clarifying triggers, patterns, and values.
Types of writing that feel more calming than other types are journaling, poetry, and expressive writing.
