The Tu-95 is a Russian long range strategic bomber. While it’s old and relatively outdated it is still in service and is expected to be in service until 2040. It entered service in 1956 under the USSR, Soviet Union. The Tu-95 nicknamed the Bear can be used as a cruise missile carrier or a regular bomber. The Bear is most comparable to America’s B-52 Bomber and both have their upsides and downsides. The Tu-95 has better fuel mileage and low altitude low speed performance due to its four turbo props instead of the B-52’s jet engines. The Tu-95 also has a lower maintenance and operation cost. The B-52 however has an increased payload of 70,000 pounds, compared to the Tu-95’s 33,000 pound payload.
