Chococat is a black cat character from the Japanese company Sanrio known for his chocolate-colored nose and large black eyes. Chococat was created by Sanrio designer Ikuko Shimizu in 1996 as part of the “Sanrio Friends” lineup. Chococat is known for his love of all things chocolate and his playful, curious nature. No one really knows how old Chococat is, but he is depicted as a young cat who enjoys exploring and making new friends.
Chococat quickly became a popular character, appearing in a wide range of merchandise, including school supplies, clothes, and accessories. Even though he was ranked 9th in a Sanrio character contest back in 1997, his popularity in Japan dropped a lot, and after 2010, he had ranked somewhere between 50th and 85th. However, Chococat is way more popular internationally, especially in the United States and Brazil. In 2024, he even made it into top 10 in Sanrio polls outside of Japan, getting 2nd place in Brazil and 3rd place in the US.
Overall, Chococat is a fun and lovable character who has become a beloved part of the Sanrio family. Whether he’s checking out new places or hanging out with his friends, he is always ready for an adventure. His playful personality and love for chocolate make him one of the most popular and well-liked Sanrio characters.
