The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive or Urtenehmen Wacht am Rhien, was the last major German offensive campaign on the western front during World War Two taking place from December 16, 1944 to January 25, 1945. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of eastern Belgium and northern Luxembourg. The offensive was intended to stop allied use of the Belgium port of Antwerp and split the allied lines to allow the Germans to encircle and destroy each of the four allied armies and force the western allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis Power’s favor. As the fighting went on things were not looking too good for the Germans as they were losing far more resources than the allies which gave the allies the upper hand to win but it was also the bloodiest battle for US forces in Word War Two with there being approximately 75,482 casualties and for the British they suffered with 1,408 casualties. The amount of German casualties for the Battle of the Bulge were between 81,834 and 98,024. The Battle of the Bulge overall resulted in the allies winning the battle and Germany’s loss in the battle was critical since their last reserves were now gone.
