Lovebirds are small parrots that measure five or six inches and weigh about two ounces. There are about nine different species of lovebirds, and their colors can range from natural green, peach, and yellow in the Peach-faced type to special bred colors like violet, bright yellow (called lutino), blue, and white-masked.
Lovebirds come from Africa, including Madagascar. They live in countries like Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and Ethiopia. Many people like keeping them as pets because they are a great pets, very playful, and for their beautiful colors. They often form a deep connection to another lovebird and can pair bond with their mate for life. They make a lot of chirping sounds, but their chirping isn’t able to mimic talking like some other parrots.
In captivity, lovebirds usually live between 10 and 20 years. In the wild, they normally live about 5 to 10 years. The oldest lovebird ever recorded in captivity lived to be 34 years old.
