Living in America in the 1950s was an interesting time. It was an era that revolutionized many different things such as fashion, movies, music, television, and housing. Fashion wise a new style emerged and it was called the “greaser” and those considered greasers usually wore blue Levi jeans, white t-shirts, leather jackets, Converse, and had a ton of pomade on their hair. This style was popularized by James Dean who was actor that dressed that way. Musical wise it was very controversial as a new music genre emerged which was rock n’ roll and the reason it was controversial was because it was chaotic, loud, and rebellious and most infamously dirty due to the iconic Elvis Presley who would often shake his legs and parents did not like it. Another reason why rock n’ roll was controversial was because it was created by black people and that time period was still really racist. For movies it was revolutionized by widescreen formats such as cinemascope, Cinerama, 3-D, and vibrant color. During the 50’s television became popular among tons of households and lured them away from films. As for housing tons of new, small, convenient homes called “suburban homes” were built so it’s safe to say the 1950’s was an era that revolutionized lots of things.
