Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1987 and the members of the band are guitarist Jerry Cantrell, and William Duvall, bassist Mike Starr, drummer Sean Kinney, and vocalist Layne Staley. the band’s sound is often associated with grunge and style associated with heavy metal. The band would rise to fame quickly due to them being apart of the grunge movement in the early 1990s. The bands first hit is their single “Man in the Box” from their debut album “Facelift”. In 1992 the band would release their next album “Dirt” which gave the band major mainstream and commercial success and contained two popular singles “Rooster” and “Would?”. In early 1993 bassist Mike Starr would be replaced by another bassist by the name of Mike Inez due to drug addiction and erratic behavior. In 1994 they would release their next album “Jar of Flies” and contained two popular singles being “No Excuses” and “I Stay Away.” 1995 would be a very major year for the band as their two songs “Heaven beside you” and “Grind” would be on the US Billboard 200 chart and earned the band several Grammy Award nominations. On April 5th 2002 vocalist Layne Staley would die of a drug overdose which would keep the band on hiatus until 2005 when they decided to reunite the band but the band was never the same with Layne Staley gone.
